A Total of 5,579 motorcyclists died in crashes in 2020. That is the highest number recorded and an 11 percent increase from 2019. Motorcycle deaths accounted for 14 percent of all motor vehicle crash deaths in 2020 and were more than double the number of motorcyclist deaths in 1997.
Motorcycles are less stable and less visible than cars and often have high performance capabilities. When motorcycles crash, their riders lack the protection of an enclosed vehicle, so they're more likely to be injured or killed. The federal government estimates that per mile traveled in 2019, the number of deaths on motorcycles was nearly 29 times the number in cars.
In the late 1970s the proportion of fatally injured motorcyclists who were 50 and older started to increase, rising from 3 percent of all rider deaths in 1975 to 14 percent in 1997 and 36 percent in 2020. In contrast, 26 percent of the fatally injured motorcyclists in 2020 were younger than 30, compared with 80 percent in 1975.

Jordan Cofields' family started The Jordan Cofield Scholarship to keep his memory and his legacy alive. Jordan was equally serious about his scholastic abilities as he was his athleticism. This is an annual scholarship that will be awarded and evenly distributed between 6 student athletes (male &/or female of diverse backgrounds and ethnicities) enrolled in an HBCU, who also excels scholastically with a GPA of at least 3.0. Funds will be made to the HBCU the student attends or plans to attend. The Jordan Cofield Scholarships will be awarded at a formal gala annually in August. Jordans' family and board members of the Jordan Alexander Cofield Foundation will review all applications and choose the 6 recipients who most closely resemble what Jordan stood for and exemplified- a spirit of excellence. Your donations will keep Jordans' legacy alive and aid a deserving, hard-working student athlete in reaching their educational goals. 100% of our donations and fundraising initiatives go to our scholarship fund.
